I would like to tell you about the "giving" that I have recently participated in.
I was asked by a friend of mine to donate a portrait. This portrait was of Benjamin Franklin for the town of Franklin MA. I did it to honor Ben Franklin's 300th birthday which is this year.
It turned out to be a great oppertunity because it was turned into the new town seal of Franklin. With news coverage and plenty of exposure for me. I of course have made giclee prints of the painting and I am marketing them to many different venues. Ben Franklin had his hand in so many things that I can't think of anyone else more marketable than him.
I now have an endless list of people to market the print to. All the historical museums, History books, Freemasons, Science Museums, Banks, etc. etc.
I say "If you have the free time to give, GIVE!" I had the time, and now my schedule is quite full. Between selling the print and being approached for portrait commissions, being asked to show my work in galleries, and most importantly: Being recognized by my community. Recognition is one of the most important things I think.
I have since justafied raising my prices!!
