West Texas Wonder. From that far-flung no man's land stretch of Texas, Myra Rodriguez rises out
of Lubbock like a freeedom bird Phoenix of Rennaissance creativity. Her camera becomes an entire
portable studio of brushes, paints, medieum, canvas, walls and scaffolds. She treads in the very
footsteps of her self taught father, Omar Rodriguez, a hard hat oil leatherneck, iron welder by
trade, he transformed himself into such a fine painter/sculptor that he once took first, second,
and third prizes all at once in an astounded community whose judges ran out of accolades for him!

To see the photgraphic pieces of Myra is to stand in awe, jaw dropping, wondering how on earth she can
achieve such nuanced speech: extreme nostalgic silence or explosive screams out of what we would
otherwise normally call a photograph. Here is a well honed master craftswoman at her best: transmuting
visual tools with remarkable and poetic accuracy to what is banally a mechanical lens. Her skies are more
than skies, her trees gain personality, her angel statues have a pulse and you can hear them weep. Her
people? Well, you almost see their bios in their face... her saints reveal the centuries of piety of
a race... Our nation could have no better record maker of the marvels of our times than this consummate
artist with a camera in her hand -- Myra Rodriguez !

Very moving photographs, filled with angst, passion, and longing. I can feel Myra's heart in all her work as she truly connects to each image. The images then hold so much energy and tell a whole story. Really beautiful Myra!!
