"Gotham News" 1955 - Willem de Kooning

In yesterday’s article, we discussed 6 important steps to write a great art press release. We always find it much easier to learn from the experience of others – so today we have examples for you! The following press releases are real and were actually used by the artists concerned to publicize their work. Names have been changed for privacy of course….

Press Release #1

This press release was used by a client in New York to get attention to her work based on recognition by a contact at a major bank. Note that (where possible), when issuing a release which names another organization it’s a good idea to have them review and sign off on it prior to release. You don’t want to sour a relationship with a new client!

PRESTIGE U.S. BANK ADDS ARTWORKS BY TRACEY CLARENCE TO COLLECTION

Bellweather Bank, a subsidiary of Bigglobal Financial GMBH has acquired paintings by New York artist Tracey Clarence for their new office in Pittsburgh, PA.. The bank chose Clarence’s paintings “Carolina Moons”, a South Carolina ocean-scape, and “Sand Storm III”, an Arizona desert landscape.

German by birth, Tracey Clarence travels regularly to Arizona and the Carolina coast to paint on location. Her paintings are rendered primarily in acrylic and are known for capturing the essence of their locations.

“I’m thrilled to have my work in such a prestige corporate art collection”, said Clarence. “I love to paint the extremes of ocean and desert and it’s rewarding to have a client who appreciates the beauty of these polar opposite environments.”

“Modern work environments need to be places of inspiration”, said Basil Graham, Senior Vice President of Corporate Marketing at Bellweather Bank. “We chose Tracey Clarence’s work for our new Pittsburgh location because her paintings bring a strong sense of beauty and vitality to their environments, and that’s not something we see every day.”

For further information about Tracey Clarence’s work including dates and times for her monthly open studio showings, please visit her website at www.websiteaddress.com or email [email protected]

Press Release #2

OK – moment of truth – I made this one up as an example! The World Hunger Project is fictional and not intended to refer to any real organization. Valdivia, Chile is however a very real and wonderful place – I traveled there last year and cannot recommend it too highly – it reminds me of New Zealand in South America with a strong German heritage – interesting place!

SUPER IMPORTANT ART SHOW SELECTS BROOKLYN ARTIST TRACEY CLARENCE FOR PREMIERE EVENT

Brooklyn artist Tracey Clarence has been selected by a jury of international art experts to participate in the 2009 Super Important Art Show in Valdivia, Chile. Clarence’s work together with the works of five other artists was chosen from a highly competitive lineup of more than 1,300 artists for the show which will focus attention on the World Hunger Project.

A German by birth, Tracey has lived in the U.S. since 1999. Originally trained in performance art, a series of vivid dreams led her to embrace painting as a career and she now shows regularly in New York and Cape Cod.

“We loved the global and timeless qualities of Tracey’s work”, commented Jaxon Mellenson, curator of the Valdivia show. “Together with her vivid color palette these qualities make her work very accessible to a variety of age-groups and cultures – important to help us spread the word about the World Hunger Project.”

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to exhibit my work at the Super Important Art Show”, commented Tracey. “My purpose as an artist is to create art that will change the world and I am honored to participate in an event which aligns so closely with my personal goals of promoting a happier healthier world.”

The Super Important Art Show will take place in the Stuyvesant Memorial Gallery at 1367 Main Street Valdivia, Chile from October 12 through November 1, 2009. An opening reception will be held on October 17th at 7.30pm. Further details can be found on the official show website at www.superimportantartshow.com.

Press Release #3

For something slightly different I’m including a copy of the press release we used to launch our sister business, “Beautiful Artist Websites” in 2005. I love this press release because it grabs attention!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DESIGN STUDIO DECLARES WAR ON UGLY ARTIST WEBSITES

Brooklyn, NY: “Beautiful Artist Websites” was launched this week with a mission to create high-quality cost-effective custom websites specifically geared to the needs of visual artists. The firm, based in Brooklyn, NY and Minneapolis, MN is a boutique design studio with specific expertise in art, design, and art-marketing.

“As an artist myself, I am very upset by the uniformly poor quality of art on the internet”, said Josse Ford, Creative Director at BAW. “ Artists invest huge amounts of time and energy in their work and they need to take much more care in how they display it. This is particularly true now because more and more galleries and collectors are looking to the worldwide web in selecting and reviewing art purchases. Our aim at Beautiful Websites For Artists is to showcase each artist’s work as if it was in a museum or high-end commercial gallery.”

While many good artist websites do exist, the sad fact is that most art is displayed on websites that look cheap and folksy or are so generic that none of the personality of the artist shines through. “Beautiful Artist Websites” addresses this need by providing cost-effective website design and consulting services specifically geared to the needs of artists.

“Arts professionals want to see that the art looks great, but they also want to get a feel for who the artist is,” commented Daniel Tardent, responsible for new business at BAW. “A well executed website will never replace a physical meeting with a collector, but it can be the key factor that sets the meeting up and the value of that is priceless. You just can’t get that from any old designer: they have to understand artists and the art industry”
