There’s a natural rhythm to life – cycles of creation, rest, contemplation, and more creation. That’s precisely why one day each week was set aside by most religions as a day of rest and reflection on the spirit, rather than money and survival.
Everyone needs vacations! Artists in particular. When you rely on plumbing the depths of your deep inner reserves to make a living and a contribution to the world, it is incredibly important to give yourself time to rest and reflect. I would go even further and say that it is your RESPONSIBILITY to do so!
Modern day living would have us believe that productivity is simply the result of hours worked times effort expended. It’s not true however. Do a little research and you’ll quickly find that great minds like Einstein achieved some of their big breakthroughs while sleeping, daydreaming, or doing something completely unrelated. As a teenager, I would often solve difficult school math problems while I was mowing the lawn.
To show that we walk our talk, The Art Marketing Secrets Team was on vacation this last weekend! Comfortably nestled in the Promised Land State Park in Northern Pennsylvania, we ate, drank, barbecued, read books, swam, and ate ice cream. We had no cell-phone or wireless internet coverage and didn’t think about art marketing for a nano-second!
Make sure you take a good break soon – you’ll be a better artist for it and probably make more money as well.
