May 29, 2009
Technique #5 – List Your Art In Online Registries & Art Directories There are several online art registries where you can submit samples of your work including images, artist statements, bios, etc. Registries are used by museum and gallery curators when they are looking for new work. Think of them as the central libraries of [...]
Would Vincent Have Been A Twiter(er)?
May 28, 2009
Since my dream of Vincent Van Gogh last week, I’ve been pondering what “true†artists from history would think of the online art marketing environment of 2009. What would they think of email, Facebook and Twitter? I guess that depending on the artist the reaction could be anything from wonder and pure pleasure to shock, [...]

Technique #3 – Use an Automated Email Management System We all like to think that our query letters will arrive like silver bullets in the perfect gallery and bring us instant fame and success. … The same applies to galleries and other arts professionals: They may not be ready for new work when you first present yourself, but at some point they will be looking.
Postcards From Texas – Creative Art Marketing from L.G. Lemons
April 9, 2008
Larry Lemons from texas emailed us this very imaginative art marketing idea. This is a great example of how to use your creativity to enjoy success with selling art. Thanks Larry! ………
In addition to the larger paintings that I create for galleries, shows/festivals, and commissions that often take a few weeks to complete, each week I paint a small 6″ x 8″ original on a canvas panel and e-mail it out to several hundred folks all around the country who have expressed a desire to follow my career.
Be Yourself = Artistic Success

There’s an important principle which I have noticed in business over a number of years. Its simply this: be aware of who you are attracting as clients and collectors.
For many of us, especially when we are establishing our art careers it’s tempting to want to appeal to every buyer who might have cash in their pockets or a healthy credit card limit. That might bring in some fast dollars but long term you really want to attract collectors who you can build a relationship with. What does that mean and how do you do it?
Use an Email Management System To Multiply Your Art Marketing – Part 3

In the world of marketing it’s a recognized fact that repetition of your message is crucial to achieving good results. Email marketing is a powerful and inexpensive method to realize the power of repetition to promote your website (and therefore your art) to buyers and galleries. Juggling hundreds or thousands of email addresses in a regular email system is not fun however and will literally consume all your valuable time.
The solution is to use an Email Management System to automate the repetitive tasks of sending email. This is Part 3 of a 3 Part Series.

Are you an Astronaut or an Astronomer
November 10, 2005
The lead article this month (by Jack White) poses the intriguing question: Are you an Astronaut or an Astronomer? The idea behind the article is that there are two kinds of artists, Astronauts and Astronomers. “Astronauts actually believe that they can make it to the stars; Astronomers only dream of what it would be like.”… If you believe in yourself, not one person, insiitution, government or structure can stop you. Jack gives the following example: “Too many people are grounded, like an elephant tied to a stake…. There is one artist we know who won’t pull up the stake…. The truth of the matter is, most of the Astronomers are smarter, and many are better educated, than the Astronauts. Yet it is the Astronaut who walks in space – the same space the Astronomer gazes at during the darkest nights.”
